Cold drawn stainless steel shapes

Cold drawn stainless steel shapes

Cold drawing is a precision reduction of the cross sectional area of pre-rolled profiles or wire rod cold drawn through a series of one or more dies. Montanstahl has specialized in cold drawn stainless steel sections and offers special shapes per customer drawings. Cold drawn stainless flats, key stock and half rounds are also available.

Tight tolerances and improved surface condition are two advantages of cold drawn stainless profiles. In addition, cold drawing reduces downstream machining and overall finishing operations.   It also provides dimensional consistency and improved straightness. There is a significant economical benefit to this method of production because it produces net or near net shapes that virtually eliminate scrap loss. Drawing processes tend to inhibit the residual stresses released by the material during subsequent machining carried out by the customer.

These sections are generally supplied in random lengths. Depending on the shape, three to five tons is a typical minimum production range. The size range is typically between 0.305” and 3” in cross sectional surface area. We have extensive engineering capabilities to help in the design of your profile.

Typical applications for these special cold drawn stainless steel sections include pump parts, valve stems, linear guide rails, sprockets, gears, keyways, splines and spindles, turbine parts, curtain wall, facade construction, x-ray equipment, louvers, and couplings.   Industries served include automotive, power generation, food processing, aerospace, water treatment, pulp and paper, fluid engineering, chemical processing, nautical, dental, medical, hand and power tools, oil drilling, safes and vaults, defense, appliances, textile, elevators and escalators. In short, cold drawn stainless steel sections are used in areas requiring precision tolerances and  a superior finish.
