Tiny House by Malden High School
Malden High School students will exhibit artifacts from their process in constructing the tiny house project funded through MassCEC’s Learn and Earn program. This group of 20 Malden students applied for the $160,000 grant for the 2016-2017 school year. Throughout the year, they have been working a paid 25-hour work week to construct the 8’ x 10’ house, in addition to completing coursework on environmental science, clean energy careers, and construction. The house is fitted with solar panels and will act as an interactive classroom for future students to study clean energy generation. Additionally, the Malden students were able to visit various worksites and participate in learning and training opportunities with organizations including the City of Malden Building Department, Tufts University, and Solar City.
